Madrid, capital of Spain since 1561, offers a multitude of surprises to its visitors: hidden squares evoke its imperial past, baroque churches and palaces abound, and the famous Prado Museum is sure to impress. Less than an hour away is Toledo, an evocative mirror reflecting the glory of a country through which have passed innumerable cultures and civilizations from all shores of the Mediterranean.
Madrid is one of the highest capitals in Europe, 600 meters above sea level. Our best plan for you will be to head north of Madrid to the province of Segovia and the area of Riaza and Lozoya where you should stop for the first two nights. Following west across the Parque Nacional de la Sierra de Guadarrama and its mountains, visit a winery of Ribera del Duero area, listen to the Gregorian chants in Silos are some of the activities you can enjoy before Segovia. You could leave the car the next whole day and walk around the city taking any of the hikes around and walk up its medieval city to its castle, the Alcazar. Just across the mountains and back in the province of Madrid you must stop at El Escorial to visit its monastery and enjoy a walk through its old town. Next stop, the medieval city of Avila and its impressive medieval walls before driving up the Sierra de Gredos where you will spend the next two nights. Your last two nights will be in Toledo. A wonderful 9-day program around the province of Madrid!
In addition to this formidable engineering feat, Segovia possesses one of the most beautiful palaces in Europe and the last gothic cathedral built on the peninsula. If Segovia has the last, Avila has the first. Not far from the site of its solid Romanesque cathedral, Santa Theresa, reformer and writer was born. Avila, with its dozens of renaissance palaces and churches, defies time and seems content to be contained within its almost 2-mile long, 11th century walls.

Please use our Custom Travel Form to share your travel needs with us. The more detail you provide, the closer we can come to creating the perfect trip. Once we receive your initial travel information we will respond to you within two working days with a suggested itinerary, tours and accommodations, along with a quote for the total cost. We'll continue to work with you as needed until you agree that you have the perfect trip. In most cases, at that time, we will ask for a 25% deposit by credit card or wire transfer and will begin making all reservations.
Full payment is due 15 days before your arrival, either by credit card or wire transfer.(*) Cancellation Policy:
If you cancel at least 15 days before your scheduled arrival, we will refund 40% of the deposit. If you cancel less than 15 days before your scheduled arrival we cannot refund the deposit. If you have already paid in full, we will provide a refund minus the deposit.
